Sony rolls out Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to the Xperia Go

JAPANESE PHONE MAKER Sony has started rolling out Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) to the Xperia Go, Xperia U and Xperia Sola handsets.

Sony announced the rollout in a blog post on Friday, saying that it has begun the rollout of Android 4.0 ICS and that will "continue over the next few weeks in markets globally." Sony's announcement refers to network unlocked Xperia handsets, so those tied into a contact might have to wait a bit longer for the update.

Still, it sounds worth waiting for, especially for owners of the Sony Xperia Sola. The Android 4.0 update, although not the Jelly Bean update users are yearning for, will furnish the handsets with a new feature called "Glove Mode," which makes it possible to operate the handsets' screens while using gloves.

Asides from that, all three handsets will get some new tweaks and features, including Sony's media applications, Walkman, albums and movies. The Xperia Go, Xperia U and Xperia Sola will also get a new lock screen with improved functionality, resizeable home screen widgets, a Recent Apps view and improved control of mobile data consumption.

To upgrade your Xperia handset, you'll need to hook it up to your PC or Mac and do so through Sony's desktop suite. µ
