PHOTO SHARING SERVICE Instagram has released an update for its popular hipster photo app that delivers support for the Iphone 5.
The main change is of course support for the larger 4in Iphone 5 display, with Instagram now making use of the extra screen space. Although the app's interface hasn't been changed, this update means that you can now see more snaps of people posing and other content.
IOS apps that aren't optimised for the larger Iphone 5 display feature black bars at the top and bottom, so it's nice to see Instagram making the effort.
Other changes include a faster and easier registration process, improved password recovery and the usual influx of bug fixes.
This Instagram update comes mere weeks after Facebook completed its acquisition of the company, which cost the social network a cool $1bn. However, Facebook was keen to point out that Instagram will remain a standalone app, rather than being phased into the social network.
"Instagram will continue to serve its community, and we will help Instagram continue to grow by using Facebook's strong engineering team and infrastructure. We also can't wait to work with the talented Instagram team to improve the mobile experience," it said.
Instagram 3.1 is available to download for free from Apple's App Store and is compatible with devices running IOS 4.3 and above. According to Instagram, an Android update will also be on its way soon. µ
