This telephone has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication - Western Union memo, 1876
FINNISH PHONE MAKER Nokia could be about to sue HTC over the design of its Windows Phone 8 devices, which it believes look strikingly similar to its Lumia handsets.
According to rumours, Nokia isn't too happy about the look of HTC's Windows Phone 8X handset, saying it looks a bit too similar to its Nokia Lumia 820 device.
We can't help but agree with Nokia, as when we got a hands-on with the HTC Windows Phone 8X last week, we did mistake it for a Lumia device at first. The most obvious similarities between the two handsets are the brightly coloured plastic chassis and the angular shapes of the devices.
We spoke to a Nokia spokesperson who was unable to confirm the online murmurs. They said, "As you'll know, we don't comment on rumour or speculation, or on our legal strategies.
"That said, in May 2012 we began actions against HTC in the US International Trade Commission and elsewhere, to end the unauthorized use of Nokia's proprietary innovations and technologies," they added.
Update
We've heard back from HTC, which tells us, "We have not received a complaint from Nokia and won't have any comments until our legal team has received and reviewed it." µ
