SWISS FEDERAL RAILWAYS (SBB) reportedly is plotting to sue Apple over its IOS 6 Clock app for the Ipad, claiming it looks too strikingly similar to its trademark station timepiece.
We all know how seriously Apple takes design patents, and woe betide anyone (mostly Samsung) that dares to round a rectangular corner without the Cupertino company's prior approval.
However, it looks like Apple could be about to get into a spot of bother of its own, as Swiss Federal Railways has taken issue with the design of the firm's new Clock app in IOS 6. It believes that too closely mirrors those classic railway station clocks you see around the country.
"We're trying to contact Apple to control the unauthorised use of [our design]," SBB spokesman Reto Kormann told Blick.
It's a brave bunch. Everyone knows how much Apple likes a legal scrap and that it has plenty of cash to throw at the problem. Then again, if any nation can take on Apple when it comes to clocks, and finances, it's the Swiss.
Who will win? Only time will tell. µ
