Microsoft warns of Internet Explorer flaw

SOFTWARE BUG FACTORY Microsoft is warning users of its Internet Exporer (IE) web browser as nearly all versions are susceptible to an attack.

Just IE 10 is not affected by the vulnerability according to the firm, and anyone that uses an earlier version, and there are millions of people that do, has been advised to do so with caution.

Microsoft has warned that the flaw can be exploited through remote code execution, possibly delivered through a malicious website, and is is advising that its users install the free Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit, EMET, as a precaution. In additon, it also recommends that they keep their security protection up to date.

"Deploying EMET will help to prevent a malicious website from successfully exploiting the issue described in Security Advisory 2757760. EMET in action is unobtrusive and should not affect customers' Web browsing experience. We are monitoring the threat landscape very closely," it said.

"We encourage internet users to follow the 'Protect Your Computer' guidance of enabling a firewall, applying all software updates and installing antivirus and antispyware software. We also encourage folks to exercise caution when visiting websites and avoid clicking suspicious links, or opening email messages from unfamiliar senders."

It also promised to cobble together a more formal fix. µ
