FRUIT THEMED Apple is more than happy with the response that its Iphone 5 has received.

A breathless press release tells us that so far it has seen two million preorders in just 24 hours, meaning that demand is exceeding that of its previous releases.

The two million figure is twice as much as it saw for Iphone 4S preorders and around four times as many as there were for the Iphone 4. This leaves us in no doubt about whether it is a good week to be Apple. It is.

"Iphone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by Iphone 4S and the customer response to Iphone 5 has been phenomenal," said Phil Schiller, Apple's SVP of worldwide marketing.

"Iphone 5 is the best Iphone yet, the most beautiful product we've ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do."

If you haven't heard of the Iphone 5 we would like to buy you a drink. Since it was launched last week it is all we have heard about. Even Schiller can't resist using its name three times in two sentences.

The Iphone 5, which is just a phone rather than, say, the cure for cancer, goes on sale later this month. This morning we heard that UK retailer O2 has already run out of its allocation. µ
