BERLIN: MOBILE CHIP MAKER Qualcomm showed off its Vuforia augmented reality technology at its IQ 2012 event.
Vuforia is an openly available tool developed by Qualcomm to help developers create augmented reality (AR) services on smart devices.
The technology works by referencing objects captured on smart devices with a database of images stored in the cloud.
"Vuforia augmented reality apps can now leverage the power of the cloud to deliver AR experiences using databases of over a million images. Manage cloud databases using APIs available through the new Vuforia Web Services (VWS)," boasts Qualcomm.
Qualcomm's Vuforia is currently compatible with over 400 smartphones and tablets and is used by several high profile retailers, including American Apparel. µ
