THE IPHONE 5 is already sold out in the UK as fanbois rush to preorder the latest Apple smartphone.

Literally just moments after we wrote that the Iphone 5 is now up for preorder, Apple has updated its online store to show a shipping time of two weeks, which means those who preorder the handset now probably won't get it until 29 September.

This means that, as analysts predicted, demand for the latest Iphone 5 has been significant. Of course, we'll have to wait to know just how many Iphone 5 devices Apple managed to shift this morning, but IHS analysts believe the latest Iphone will give Apple a 60 percent boost in sales.

"Unlike last year's release of the Iphone 4S, this year's Iphone 5 announcement comes as a significant departure from previous models," cheered IHS mobile analyst Daniel Gleeson.

"The addition of a new, larger screen is a fundamental change in product design. Furthermore, the Iphone 5 is the first member of Apple's smartphone line to feature 4G long term evolution connectivity, accelerating data speeds dramatically compared to previous models," he burbled.

Still, it's not all bad news for Iphone 5 buyers. The device is available to preorder on most of the UK mobile networks too, with tariffs starting from around £36 a month. µ
