MICROSOFT CEO Steve Ballmer has used his company's annual employee meeting to spread a little good cheer and hardware.

A report at Forbes that we are waiting for Microsoft to confirm says that every one of the 90,000 people that work for Microsoft will get a package of free Windows hardware.

Forbes reports that the workers will all get a Surface tablet running Windows RT and a Windows Phone 8 handset to take home with them, plus their choice of a Windows desktop, laptop or ultrabook to use in the office.

The meeting was not open to the public, but some of those in attendance announced the giveaway through their social networking accounts, and some even compared Steve Ballmer to Oprah Winfrey. Which proves that there is indeed a first time for everything.

This is not the first time that Ballmer has come out all Father Christmas'y, and in 2010 he was handing out free Windows 7 phones to lucky Microsoft staff. Then, as we expect is the case now, the expectation was that the employees would evangelise the hardware and software. µ
