IN ADDITION to the launch of the Iphone 5, Apple has unveiled a reworked version of its Itunes client that will be coming to PC and Mac in October.
The reworked Itunes 11 client boasts a much needed redesign along with better integration. Although it doesn't look all that different, it boasts a full window interface that's "simpler and cleaner," making it easy to see your favourite content including TV shows and music.
It also adds artist pages, places where musicians can share photos, tour dates and other information, as well as UI tweaks to reveal upcoming songs in your queue and your top tracks and albums. Our favourite design tweak is the new mini player, which comes complete with an integrated search function.
Better Icloud integration is another standout feature of Itunes 11, making it possible to start watching a movie on your Iphone and finish watching it on your Ipad or Mac. The improved Icloud syncing also means that all of your Itunes purchased are saved to Icloud, and can be accessed from any Apple device.
Another new feature is the ability to preview products while browsing, ideal for those who like to try out or listen before buying. Facebook integration is another new feature.
"We created Itunes because we love music and we're going back to our roots with an incredibly clean design that keeps your music at the forefront," said Eddy Cue, Apple SVP of internet software and services.
"The new Itunes works seamlessly with Icloud, always keeping your entire library at your fingertips, and we're adding great new features that make listening to your music more fun."
Alongside Itunes, Apple unveiled a new Ipod lineup, including a 4in Retina display Ipod Touch and a redesigned 2.5in Ipod Nano.
Itunes 11 will be available to download for free from October. µ
