SURPRISE, SURPRISE, the online Apple Store has gone dark just a few hours before the company will launch the Iphone 5.
What makes this news a bit more exciting than usual is the fact that Apple has changed its holding webpage. Gone is the yellow sticky note of old, having been replaced by the message, "We'll be back. We're busy updating the Apple Store and will be back soon," which changes to be displayed in multiple languages.
Other than that, there's nothing new to see here. We all know that Apple has taken its online store offline in order to prepare for a new product, namely the Iphone 5 that the fruit themed firm will unveil in San Francisco tonight.
However, the fact that Apple's store has gone offline does suggest that the smartphone will be available for preorder from tonight.
Although Apple has remained traditionally tight-lipped over the product launch, we pretty much know what we can expect from the next Iphone. Speculation suggests that the Iphone 5 will feature a larger 4in 16:9 aspect ratio Retina display, Apple's A5X processor, an improved camera, a smaller dock connector, nano SIM support and new bundled headphones.
Apple's Iphone 5 launch event will take place at 18:00 UK time. µ
Pre-orders to begin on 9 September with release to follow on 16 September
