BERLIN: FINNISH PHONE MAKER Nokia has moved quickly to debunk claims that its Lumia 920 smartphone will struggle to compete against IOS and Android, claiming that its Pureview camera technology will entice users away from rival smartphones.

Nokia EVP Jo Harlow claimed during her keynote at Qualcomm's IQ event in Berlin on Tuesday that the Lumia 920 is the best smartphone Nokia has ever made.

"Our Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 flagship is the most innovative smartphone in the world. The device is the perfect example of Nokia's iconic Lumia design, combined with the incentive of Pureview camera technology," she said.

"Windows Phone 8 and the Lumia 920 were built side by side. We're working with Microsoft to expand Windows Phone."

Nokia's Pureview technology lets users take the best pictures possible on a smartphone, Harlow claimed.

Nokia said the technology lets the Lumia 920 capture five to 10 times more light per shot than competing smartphones and boasts unparalleled video stabilisation features.

The company was criticised after it was revealed that a video purporting to show off the 920's Pureview camera technology had been faked.

Harlow used the Berlin event to issue a further apology for the video.

"You may have heard about a video that simulated the Pureview technology's effect," said Harlow.

"We're still in the process of understanding how it happened. It was poor judgement not to put a disclaimer saying it was a simulation. But it should not distract from the point, the Lumia 920 does take the best images on any smartphone."

The Lumia 920 was unveiled at a New York event earlier in September, and is expected to be released in the UK in November exclusively on EE's 4G LTE network. µ
