Spotify might release a web browser version

MUSIC STREAMING SERVICE Spotify might be getting ready to launch a web browser version of its software, but for now it's not commenting.

According to a report at Techcrunch the firm is getting ready to launch an overhauled and updated version of the service that will include more social features, like the ability to follow other people's playlists.

Spotify did not comment on the rumours, only saying that there is often speculation on how and when it will alter its service, but Techcrunch apparently has sources that are less cagey.

They have told it that the new Spotify might look very different from the existing one launched around a year ago. Discovery and recommendations could be improved, and it could increase the number of suggested albums and tracks on display. Others said it's possible that Spotify could cut the cost of its mobile service too.

Importantly, the new service will see Spotify move away from being a software application to being web browser based. The sources could not say whether this will replace existing versions or work alongside them, but suggested that it will increase Spotify's customer base. µ
