JACK OF ALL TRADES Virgin Media has announced plans to launch TV Anywhere, an on-demand and live streaming television service that will challenge Sky Go.
Set to arrive in Autumn 2012, TV Anywhere will give customers Ipad app and web browser access to on-demand content and live TV. Virgin told us that it expects to have around 30 live channels available from launch across genres such as sports, kids, news and entertainment.
"With Virgin TV Anywhere, Virgin Media TV customers will be able to watch the best of the box on their laptop, PC, Ipad and other devices whether they're at home or on the move, anywhere with Wi-Fi," Virgin Media explains.
However, while Virgin Media boasts that it will be available to all, it's worth noting that the Ipad app will only be available to TiVo subscribers. This fancy looking app, which Virgin promises will also be coming to Android at some point, will allow customers to watch live shows, access recordings and use the Ipad as a remote control.
Virgin Media adds, "Users will be able to browse listings, get recommendations on shows, movies and content, and access the latest entertainment news," as well as being able to share shows via Facebook and Twitter.
Non-Tivo customers will be able to watch live television and on-demand shows through the Virgin Media website though, at no extra cost on top of the subscription.
Virgin Media has yet to announce a launch date for its TV Anywhere service. µ
