FINNISH PHONE MAKER Nokia announced its flagship Windows Phone 8 device today, the Nokia Lumia 920.

As the rumour mill had suggested, the Nokia Lumia 920 handset boasts the high-end Pureview camera technology that made its debut on the Symbian powered Nokia 808 Pureview.

The 8MP camera "captures better photos and video than any competitor's smartphone, and your average professional camera", according to Nokia. The snapper captures between five and 10 times more light than average smartphones due to its unique floating lens technology, which also helps the phone to capture "smooth and professional looking video".

Fancy camera technology isn't all the Lumia 920 has got going for it. The phone also features a 4.5in Nokia Puremotion HD Plus display, which the Finnish firm claims offers the best clarity of any display touchscreen available on the smartphone market. The curved screen also boasts sunlight readability enhancements, automatically adjusting when subjected to bright glare.

Another standout feature is wireless charging, conducted via the bizarrely named "fat boy charging pillow." Its name aside, this feature means that the Nokia Lumia 920 can be charged simply by being placed on its colourful charging pad. Virgin Atlantic has partnered with Nokia to bring these charging pads to its Heathrow Virgin Atlantic lounge too, enabling users of the Lumia 920 to quickly charge their handset before they jump on a flight.

The phone also features a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor, 1GB of RAM, integrated NFC technology, expandable storage, support for 4G LTE technology and a 2,000mAh battery, the largest battery yet to feature on a Nokia device. It's still unclear whether the phone will work with LTE networks here in the UK.

With Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system on board, the Nokia Lumia 920 boasts a customisable interface with resizeable tiles, Xbox Live gaming, Microsoft Office and Nokia's suite of travel applications, including Nokia City Lens. µ
