TAIWANESE PHONE MAKER HTC has sent out invitations summoning the press to an event in New York on 19 September, where the firm is widely expected to launch its first Windows Phone 8 devices.
HTC was unable to give us any details about what it's got up its sleeve, but given that Nokia is about to launch its debut Windows Phone 8 Lumia devices, we've already come to our own conclusions.
If online speculation is anything to go by, HTC's first Windows Phone 8 handset looks ready to challenge the Samsung Ativ S. Although full specifications are yet to appear, the phone is likely to tout a large 5in LCD touchscreen, displaying Microsoft's customisable Windows Phone 8 user interface.
There's also talk of a dual-core processor, a front-facing video calling camera, a yet unspecificied rear-facing camera, integrated NFC technology and HSDPA and WiFi connectivity.
Further speculation suggests that HTC could also be plotting to launch a Windows 8 tablet or a 5in touchscreen Android smartphone to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
The INQUIRER will be on hand with all the latest information from the upcoming event. µ
