Barnes & Noble picks John Lewis to flog Nook ereaders

BOOKSELLER Barnes & Noble has chosen John Lewis to be the first retailer outside the US to flog its Nook ebook reader.

Barnes & Noble has enjoyed considerable success with its Nook ebook reader and since it settled a lawsuit with Microsoft the firm has decided to sell the device outside of the US. The firm announced that John Lewis will be the first retailer outside of the US to sell the Nook in its stores and on its website.

John Lewis will stock the Nook Simple Touch and the Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight, but won't be alone in selling devices to Brits as Barnes & Noble will set up its own website this Autumn to peddle the devices.

Ed Connolly, director of buying for electricals at John Lewis said, "Always first with the latest technology, John Lewis is thrilled to be chosen as the premier UK launch retailer for the Nook. This award-winning line of e-readers adds greater choice to this expanding category. We think our customers will love Nook's adaptability thanks to its E Ink display and unique built-in Glowlight, perfect for day or night time reading."

Barnes & Noble said the two Nook devices will have access to more than 2.5 million titles including newspapers and magazines. The firm also said British users will have access to Nook Apps.

Neither Barnes & Noble nor John Lewis revealed pricing or release dates, but just said the two devices will tip up this Autumn. µ
