Judge asks Apple's lawyers if they've been ‘smoking crack’

UNITED STATES District Court Judge Lucy Koh laid into Apple's lawyers in court on Thursday, suggesting that they've been "smoking crack" if they think they'll get their way.

Tempers rose in the San Jose, California courtroom after Apple handed a 75-page brief to Judge Koh, The Verge reports, a document that listed 22 potential rebuttal witnesses Apple proposed to call after Samsung finished presenting its case.

"I am not going to be running around trying to get 75 pages of briefings for people who are not going to be testifying," Judge Koh told Apple lawyer Bill Lee.

"I mean come on. 75 pages! 75 pages! You want me to do an order on 75 pages, (and) unless you're smoking crack, you know these witnesses aren't going to be called when you have less than four hours," Koh said.

"Your honour, I can assure you, I'm not smoking crack," Lee replied.

In addition, Apple heard yesterday that it was asking for too much in damages from Samsung, having overestimated the Korean firm's profit margins.

Apple has been asking for $2.5bn (£1.6bn) in damages from Samsung, but expert witness Michael Wagner told the court that it should be asking for no more than $519m.

The Apple versus Samsung trial is coming to a close, with Samsung having just one hour of court time left to present its case. µ
