FINNISH PHONE MAKER Nokia will announce its first handsets running Windows Phone 8 next month.

Bloomberg reports that Nokia will unveil its next generation Lumia handsets at Nokia World 2012, which will take place on 5 September.

The report states, "Nokia plans to announce Windows Phone 8-based handsets as early as next month at its Nokia World event -- ahead of an expected Sept. 12 unveiling of the next version of the iPhone -- and have them for sale before the year-end holiday shopping season, said a person with knowledge of the matter, asking not to be identified because the plan isn't public."

Details on Nokia's debut Windows Phone 8 handsets remain sparse, although the company has hinted that it will be bringing its Pureview camera technology to its Lumia line-up.

Speaking to The INQUIRER back in June, a Nokia spokesperson said, "We have stated that we plan to use Pureview imaging technologies to deliver high-end imaging experiences in future Nokia products. Since Nokia is committed to Windows Phone as its primary smartphone platform, that includes plans to bring Pureview to Lumia over time.

"Pureview represents the highest category of smartphone imaging from Nokia, of which the Nokia 808 PureView is only the first example. All Pureview innovations will be based on a combination of high-resolution sensors, high-performance optics and Nokia-developed algorithms to create unique smartphone imaging experiences."
