ONLINE AUCTION OUTFIT Ebay is trialing an IOS app that specialises in a same day delivery service.
Ebay Now is in beta and was released on Sunday to a selected group of customers in San Francisco. For $5 a pop, it offers same-day shipping on orders worth $25 or more through local retailers such as Macy's, Toys'r'us, Target, and Best Buy.
"Starting today, for purchases of $25 or more, San Francisco shoppers can order products from local stores and have them delivered to their door," Ebay said in an invitation to those chosen to test the service.
The Ebay Now service is open to San Francisco residents Monday to Saturday between 9am and 9pm, and Sunday 9am to 6pm. Ebay said deliveries can arrive within an hour but a store must be open at least a half hour after an order has been placed.
Ebay failed to say when the beta will end, but it is taking $15 off the first order for users using the app.
There is no word on whether or when the service will be coming to the UK.
Those interested can sign up now via an online form to be notified when the full version of Ebay Now is ready to launch. Just when this will be, however, Ebay has yet to announce. µ
