INTERNET PORTAL AND ADVERTISING OUTFIT Yahoo is being sued for negligence after around half a million of its username and password records were stolen.
The leak happened in early July and saw 450,000 usernames and passwords spilled. One of those users has sued the firm, and it is possible that others will too.
According to a Bloomberg report, Jeff Allan of New Hampshire filed a complaint on 31 July in US federal court in San Jose, California.
The complaint alleges that Yahoo provided inadequate protection for his personal information and asks for compensation for him and other affected users. Yahoo, says the main thrust of the complaint, should have to pay for what happened.
Yahoo has admitted that something happened, confessing that a hacking group attacked its Yahoo Voices service with a Union based SQL injection technique. It said that just five per cent of its users were affected though.
We have asked Yahoo to comment. µ
