BUBBLY MOBILE NETWORK O2 has followed in the footsteps of Three with the launch of its own mobile WiFi device, the O2 Pocket Hotspot.

O2 Pocket Hotspot mobile wifiO2's Pocket Hotspot that it launched today lets users connect up to five devices to the web simultaneously, including smartphones, tablet and laptops. The device offers maximum download speeds of 21.6Mbit/s, and upload speeds of 5.76Mbit/s.

"It's perfect for sharing the hotspot with other people and you don't need to plug it in to your device, just have it near you," O2 boasts. "The O2 Pocket Hotspot is your very own wifi hub that's small enough to go where you go."

The pint-sized device comes with two pay as you go data options. Adopters can either pay £2.04 a day for 200MB of data access, or if you'd rather get 1GB or 2GB data to last you the month, it'll cost £10.21 or £15.32, respectively. What's more, O2 will double your data allowance on your first and every third top-up.

Gary Booker, general consumer manager at O2 said, "We saw a big gap in the market for a Mobile WiFi package that offered lower start-up costs and competitive data.

"Customers have told us that they want access to the web on the go, but that they don't always want to sign up for year-long contracts or to buy lots of data from the outset. O2 Hotspot has been designed to cater for exactly those needs: lowering up-front costs and offering customers lots of options when it comes to the amount of data they buy - what they need, when they need it."

O2's Pocket Hotspot is available at the O2 Store now for a one-off charge of £59.99. Don't try taking it to the Olympic venues though, as LOCOG has banned all mobile hotspot devices from the London 2012 Games. µ
