INTERNET SERVICES OUTFIT Google is working to get some of its applications back online after they went down earlier today.

In the office we can confirm that at least one Gmail account is down, while Google has announced that its Talk application is unavailable for the majority of users.

There have been problems with Google Talk for about as long as our staff member has had problems with Gmail.

An early status update that said Google was looking into reports of Google Talk problems was soon replaced with something firmer around an hour ago.

"We're aware of a problem with Google Talk affecting a majority of users. The affected users are able to access Google Talk, but are seeing error messages and/or other unexpected behavior. We will provide an update by 7/26/12 12:50 PM detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. Please note that this resolution time is an estimate and may change," said that first notification.

The 12:50PM deadline rolled around, and Google added,"We are continuing to investigate this issue. We will provide an update by 7/26/12 1:50 PM detailing when we expect to resolve the problem."

Both of these posts are marked with a red dot, Google shorthand for a service that is offline.

There has been nothing more about Gmail downtime yet, and Google's service dashboard shows the problem as being limited to Google Talk. µ
