KOREAN PHONE GIANT Samsung has announced that its Galaxy S3 smartphone will double as a hotel keycard during the London 2012 Olympics, earning its place as this year's Olympic Games' official smartphone.
On its blog, Samsung revealed it has partnered with the Holiday Inn in Stratford Westfield City, setting up 40 rooms in the hotel with technology to enable the Galaxy S3 to unlock doors, control lighting and act as an in-room phone extension.
The remote features, which initially will be available to VIPs staying at the hotel, are accessible by downloading the Holiday Inn app onto the Galaxy S3 handset,
Bumchoo Cho, SVP of enterprise and mobile communications division at Samsung commented, "As a hotel visitor, you not only expect to have all the services you need at your fingertips, but you want to be able to take full advantage of them in a way that is effortless simply and intuitively smart.
"Working with market specialists such as Fingi, we are enabling businesses to use the power of the Galaxy S III to transform the experience they can deliver to their customers.
"The project with fellow London 2012 Olympic Games partner Holiday Inn allows us both to bring to live our Olympic Games experience in a way that has never been seen before."
As a partner of the London 2012 Olympics, Samsung will be giving a Galaxy S3 handset to all participating athletes, which can be used for making NFC payments around the city. µ
