HTC cans Android 4.0 for the Desire HD

TAIWANESE PHONE MAKER HTC has dropped plans to provide Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) for the Desire HD smartphone, according to Canadian mobile operator Telus.

Back in May HTC promised users of the Desire HD that the phone would be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in July along with the HTC Rhyme and Desire S handsets.

However, a document from mobile network Telus has revealed that the update for the Desire HD has been cancelled, leaving users stuck on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The network said, "HTC has [cancelled] the HTC Desire HD ICS upgrade due to poor device performance during testing."

However, we're a bit surprised by the news, as the phone features a decent 1GHz Snapdragon processor and has 768MB of RAM, which sounds like it should be sufficient for handling Google's Android 4.0 operating system.

It's not all bad news though. The Canadian operator also revealed that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Tab 8.9 tablets will be upgraded to ICS next month, adding that the Blackberry Bold 9790 will also receive an upgrade to Blackberry OS 7.1. µ
