JUST HOURS after it launched its social Gamecircle platform for the Kindle Fire, Amazon has announced the launch of a service called Game Connect.

Amazon's new games service enables customers to discover a new range of free-to-play and massively multiplayer online (MMO) games on its online games store. It also allows developers to implement "simple and secure" in-app purchases in their games, which customers can buy and have sent directly into their game.

With Game Connect, a customer's game account can be linked to their Amazon account allowing any subscriptions and virtual goods purchased to be sent directly to the game without having to copy and paste a code - simplifying the buying process for customers while creating a fast and easy way for developers to offer and sell more virtual content.

Mike Frazzini, director at Amazon Games said that the new service is beneficial for both developers and customers, and should help the retailer boost its gaming offering.

"Customers can now discover a new category of free-to-play games and can experience the convenience of having virtual items purchased with their Amazon account delivered directly to their game accounts," he explained.

"Game Connect helps game developers reach more customers, move more quickly and grow their business by simplifying the purchase process for customers. This is an exciting next step for the Digital Games Store and we have even more to come." µ
