MEMORY VENDOR Netlist has announced its Hypercloud memory has been qualified for use in HP's Proliant Generation 8 rack servers.
Netlist packages standard DDR3 memory with its own on-module Hypercloud register that it claims provides higher real-world memory throughput under certain workloads compared to traditional registered DDR3 memory modules. Now the firm has gained the blessing of HP to use its Hypercloud modules in its popular Proliant Generation 8 rack servers.
Netlist's Hypercloud DDR3 memory comes in 16GB and 32GB capacities and runs at 1333MHz. The firm's Hypercloud memory has one main disadvantage, the modules run at 1.5V rather than 1.35V, a difference that becomes significant when running a full rack of servers.
Netlist is pitching its Hypercloud memory to firms wanting to pack more virtual machines into a single physical server. The firm claims its Hypercloud register can reduce latency, which over a period of time and a number of requests results in higher bandwidth.
Chuck Hong, CEO of Netlist said, "Side-by-side benchmarking from various independent sources have proven Hypercloud technology to be the fastest server memory in the market and thus ideal for high-performance servers. These qualifications expand the availability of Hypercloud to the highest volume servers in the world while extending the benefits of Hypercloud technology to customers running the most demanding applications."
Previously Netlist got a seal of approval from IBM on its System X x86 based servers. Certification means potential new business for the firm, as both IBM and HP now provide support for machines that use Netlist Hypercloud memory. µ
