GERMAN RETAILER Amazon.de has began taking pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S III, giving us our first glimpse at the handset's price tag.
The listing reveals that the third-generation Samsung Galaxy will sport a €599 price, which means it should retail for just short of £500 in the UK. Unfortunately there's no mention of the handset's release date, but this should be revealed in just over a week.
The German arm of Amazon also lists some specifications that we can expect in the smartphone, including a 4.7in Super AMOLED touchscreen, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), a 12MP "kamera" with autofocus, LED flash and face detection and 16GB of internal storage expandable to 32GB. The listing also reveals that the handset will be available in black, but we'll no doubt be seeing a white model available from day one too, as Samsung's launch day patterns continue to align ever closer with Apple's.
This slip-up from Amazon Germany comes as Samsung launches a teaser web site for its upcoming launch, www.tgeltaayehxnx.com. The eagle-eyed amongst you will notice that tgeltaayehxnx is in fact an anagram of "the next galaxy", which Samsung is promising to show us on 3 May.
The INQUIRER will be at Samsung's event next week, where we will find out what "the next Galaxy" has to offer. µ
