CHINESE PHONE MAKER Huawei has announced that it will release the Ascend P1 smartphone in Europe this Summer, several months after its launch at CES in January.
The Huawei Ascend P1 is the slightly chunkier sibling of the 6.68mm-thick Ascend P1 S that has yet to be released in the UK, with its thicker chassis allowing for a larger battery. Besides that you'll find the specifications identical to those of the skinnier P1 S, including a Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 Cortex A9 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 4.3in qHD screen, an 8MP camera and Android 4.0.
"The global availability of the Ascend P1, which combines smart features and a sexy design, represents a significant milestone for Huawei Device", said Richard Yu, chairman of Huawei Device.
"We are sending strong signals of our intention to transform into a consumer-facing brand and extend our market leadership globally by strengthening our range of flagship products. We are also expanding our sales and distribution channels to move beyond a focus on operators."
There are no details on the handset's pricing or UK release date, but Huawei has promised that these will be revealed soon. µ
