SURPRISINGLY, OUR READERS seem to be a vengeful bunch that would like to see anyone that runs a download web site hauled before the authorities and punished mercilessly.
We ran a poll after the authorities grabbed their shotguns, stormed the home of Kim Dotcom and shut down his filesharing web site Megaupload. The majority of poll respondents apparently had no sympathy for Dotcom and his kind and would like to find a tall tree and a short rope for them.
The poll found that 47 per cent of respondents agreed, "Yes, companies should suffer an immediate death penalty upon being accused of copyright infringement", while one per cent went with the little softer, "Yes, the coppers said the company was breaking the law so it must be guilty".
We wonder whether the poll found its way around some MAFIAA offices, but we do not know. We can say that the toughest line on accusations of 'piracy' was the most heavily voted answer, even though it was very stern indeed. The less severe responses got much fewer responses.
Only 19 per cent of respondents said that those arrested are innocent until proven guilty, suggesting that they would pass at least one question in a police recruiting exam.
And 22 per cent said that the company had millions of customers that had been harmed by having access to their files cut off, meaning that a quarter of the people out there are reasonably fair individuals.
Fully 11 per cent said that they didn't care because they never used Megaupload anyway. µ

I'm tempted to say its clear from the poll which side the Hater sickos are on but the poll is a obvious fraud.
I mean anyone who has read the INQUIRER for years knows that the bulk of post support file sharing .
In fact in reviewing the posts one can see a lot more creativity' understanding' and articulation in the file sharing supporters as opposed to the comments of the opposition which tend to be more redundant repetitive and crude so it doesn't surprise me that some poll got spammed by one or more haters .
Hung out.
So what do polls say these days ? As long as the average Joe can switch on his smartphone and jack off in front of its camera to his imaginary Australian girlfriend, he's happy.
Soooo recent research:
http://techreport.com/discussions.x/22022
indicates that 46% of adults and 70% of those 18-29 participate in privacy. Lets try this and start a bloody civil war!
Seriously, the media industry needs to get with it! instead of fighting the new reality, they need to work with the sharing sites to develop a revenue model through advertizing or something else creative. If a fraction of the money spent on "fighting piracy" was spent on developing the sharing market, this issue would have resolved itself years ago.
I'd say it is time to fire a few media company execs and hire replacements with a fresh perspective!
You INQ-Guys understand that you readers like and share your kind of irony, are you?
Well, the Content-System is not perfect, so there are companys who do dirty busines becouse of the flaws. We are using the service of these companys becouse we like to be criminals..., errrr, no, becouse its easy and cheap.
"death penalty" to such companies?
yes! its like fighting madness with madness.
i like it!
"death penalty for filesharers" That's just complete BS. Death penalty should be for murderer's, rapists etc.
Seem then that hat's what you get when your site is under increasingly bombardment of comments of hired US shills for the 'industry' and you let it go.
actualy it is illegal. If you follow the the law to the letter, even playing your person radio where another person can hear it breaks copyright laws.
My dad use to have a second hand store and had a radio playing on a local station behind the counter and one day a guy came in and told him he would have to turn it off or start paying them ever month.
Just because something is unlawful doesn't mean its not right.
@Someone Special: Stone them to death with IDE drives? *IDE* drives?? C'mon, that's cruel and unusual punishment! At least make 'em SCSI so their deaths have a little retro-coolness to them. At least give 'em that on their way out of this world!
*IDE* drives...geez...that's just...CRUEL.......
Ever whistled a copyrighted tune in the street or on the bus or in a market.
That is probably unauthorised public performance and you should be shot.
Its unbelievable.
Its the inquirer's fault for not taking the time to check from where did those votes come from.
The Copyrights holders even the government could schew those results by just using an automated voting program.
Just think about it.
Hang 'em all high - the pirates, hackers, rapists and politicians.
For all those that are saying "death penalty" for file sharers yeah I totally agree.
Lets give the death penaltly to file sharers and lets sex offenders walk free.
Oh wait... can anyone see the writing on the wall? Didn't think... people need to do their research before making a post here. Everyones lack of understanding on mattters such as this worry me...
The death penalty is too good for "filesharers". They must be dragged naked in front of an angry mob and stoned to death with old 3.5" IDE drives; on a football pitch during match recess on live TV until they are completely immobile.
In fact, why not sue their families for $750,000 per song and flog their children too. They all have guilty genes in them, I'm sure of it.
Stop producing content - no more over priced movies, music, games, etc. to be copied.
Problem solved.
Some folks clearly can't deal with the reality that piracy is not supported by the masses. What a shocker or not.
is to have a silly answer sprinkled into polls to gauge the sincerity of the polltakers.
Something like,"I like pie," or "Puppies are cute." Then see what percentage pick that answer.
Most INQUIRER readers support the death penalty for filesharers proves that most readers here are right wing conservative extremists. That their law abiding, say three Hail Marys everytime they wrong someone.
Hucklebuck has it spot on - instant firing squad. I'm sure there was no sarcasm implied by any of the voters...
@Carl - any idiot can troll on here too - congratulations.
Any idiot can vote. Just look what the uk got stuck with for 15 years. The labour party. Need i say anymore.
The survey respondents were probably mostly pro piracy fans so in reality 98% of society believes facilitators of piracy should be hung by their balls immediately. Since there is plenty of evidence to prove Mr. MegaLoad was violating law, I doubt most people were jumping to unreasonable conclusions.
Had he not run when released on bail, he'd get his day in court. Now we must hope he gets hit by a bus.
s/until/unless/ Let's get it right, please.
This is how it should be. No evidence required, no burden of proof on a plaintiff. No process of a trial, that would only be a huge waste of time.
All you need is an accusation - and a firing squad. Nuff said.
