LG leaks its Optimus 3D 2 ahead of MWC

Thinner, lighter and white

SMILEY FACED FIRM LG has had the Optimus 3D 2 leaked ahead of its announcement at Mobile World Congress (MWC).

The second generation Optimus 3D 2 will make its first appearance at this month's MWC in Barcelona, according to Etnews. LG announced the original Optimus 3D at the show last year so it seems about time for a new version.

As before, the handset will be able to display 3D images without the need for accompanying glasses. The screen will be a high definition advanced high performance in-plane switching (AH-IPS) display similar to the one found on the Optimus LTE, according to GSM Arena.

LG has apparently made the device thinner at 9.8mm instead of 12mm and 20g lighter at 148g. This is apparent from the image and good news since the size and weight got a thumbs down in our review of the original Optimus 3D.

Specifications are minimal at the moment but the Optimus 3D 2 will apparently come with HDMI and digital living network alliance (DLNA) technology. It seemingly will also come in white straight off the bat.

We're not sure what version of Android will come pre-loaded but the image doesn't look like Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). LG launched the Optimus 3D with the out-of-date Android 2.2 Froyo instead of Android 2.3 Gingerbread to get it to market quicker, so a similar thing could happen with the Optimus 3D 2, although we hope not.

Two other phones from LG have also cropped up recently that could appear at MWC. The Windows Phone called the Miracle was leaked earlier today and the Android Optimus Vu was shown in a teaser video last week. µ
