Apple tries to ban Samsung's Galaxy Nexus in the US

Claims it infringes four patents

PATENT WEILDING Apple is trying to get Samsung's Galaxy Nexus smartphone banned in the US.

According to Reuters, Apple has asked a California federal court to block sales of Samsung's Android based device, claiming it violates four patents with new features such as a voice-command search function. The Galaxy Nexus is the first handset running the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and other hardware vendors are set to follow with their own devices using it.

Apple said in a lawsuit filed late last week in San Jose that the Galaxy Nexus infringes patents underlying features that customers expect from Apple products, including unlocking a phone by sliding an image, calling a phone number found in an email and searching for information by voice.

Only last week, Apple lost a German Court case to ban Samsung's reworked Galaxy Tab 10.1N.

The court cases started when Apple sued Samsung last year, saying Samsung's products "slavishly" copied the Ipad and Iphone. Samsung then countersued Apple and legal battles between the two companies have spread worldwide. µ

Again

Yes, voice recognition/commands were available as an "App" on Windows Mobile phones before Iphones were launched (lets not forget, Siri was available on ALL Iphones before Apple bought the company and not just the 4s, it was also in development for Android and Blackberry before Apple pulled that plug).

Also slide to unlock gesture was originally on a Windows CE powered phone 2 years before Iphone was even conceived, so who's copying who Apple.

Anti-trust

Most companies sue for damages, but apple has so much money they just want a monopoly, they don't need money.

Unfortunately history has shown other companies that have done shady things to get a monopoly only get a few billion slap in the wrist when it's done. And a few billion to apple is nothing once they control the world.

But slide to unlock, and voice search, were not invented by apple.

I hear breathing is popular, lets patent that!!!!

Sad thing is, I have an ipad2, not for any love of apple, but because it was the best tablet at the time. So long as they keep making good products they shouldn't have to pull stuff like this.

You've got to be kidding

Oh for crying out loud. This is out of control. At least now Google has to respond due to the fact that Apple is going directly after the OS. Google was obviously trying to stay out of harm's way for the longest time, letting the hardware manufacturers duke it out with Apple. They don't have a choice now. It's time to litigate apparently. Apple is a disgrace. I'll never purchase another item from them again.
