Godaddy offends women in Superbowl ad

Ladies are looking for an exit
Mon Feb 06 2012, 10:59

CONTROVERSIAL DOMAIN REGISTRAR and hosting firm Godaddy continued to work its charm by managing to be offensive to women during the US Superbowl broadcast.

In an advert shown during the Superbowl the firm finally managed to do what it apparently has been trying to do for some time and offend any women who are not already offended by its Godaddy Girls.

The ad was for Godaddy's internet cloud service and featured what it called Pussycat Dolls, a quintet of girls that dance in varying states of undress.

We did not learn much from watching it, other than the fact that Godaddy offers cloud services and that naked women might be "heaven".

People were quick to comment on the ad, and many said that they will move their domains away from the firm, as many people have before.

"It would appear @Godaddy has done it again making their customers angry enough to move to another provider," commented Anonymouspress in a Twitter message.

"Because no woman is ever in need of a domain name. #godaddy #disgusting," says another message, and, "Hey mommy bloggers, wouldn't it be awesome if every. single. one. of us moved our hosting from #GoDaddy somewhere else 1st thing tomorrow?" said another.

In response to some comments accusing it of not having a high opinion of women the firm's Twitter account responded, "Not true at all. We love all our customers. We just like to have fun. ^A". However, the barrage of comments by those offended continues. µ

Have to agree with W

it was lame, and definitely near the very bottom of all the ads shown, if not the worst-GoDaddy should fire their agency, rethink their strategy, and Danica should run-she doesn't need the money and esp the flack this ad is going to encounter

Sexist?

I find it amusing that the ones offended by the sexism of the Godaddy commercials did not seem to find any sexism in the roman slaves pulling Madonna into the arena. Does this mean sexism is ok as long as it applies to men and not women?

Well Targeted Advertising

This was clearly a well targeted advertising campaign aimed at their core market of dorks, nerds, and Linux users in general. However I suspect it also crossed over into the male population in general, and was therefore an outstanding success. Plus it got extra free publicity from those offended.

Who cares about a few lesbian feminist whingers. If they are that bothered then why are they watching a sport that has cheerleaders in the first place? This approach will always be a winner until the day that kitchen appliances require domain names and hosting.

Maybe...

Maybe we should avoid looking at women on TV--or maybe we should have a Gomommy to balance it out. Have you seen the stats on which sex buys the most porn?

What?

Of course no women want Internet domains.

Sheesh, next thing they'll be saying women want the vote.

b-ad

I would use the terms lame and embarrassing and amateurish for that ad.
Even if you go for girls and sexual innuendo you should be able to do better than that, the way that they did it made it excruciating and it went on past any point of forgiving them for just being an ad.
I doubt that it's only or even predominantly women that find that ad annoying.

Who cares

If you don't like Go Daddy then change. I don't think this is really a news story as much as someone's personal opinion.

Figures

Well, it figures. The firm is called Go*Daddy* and not Go*Mommy*. What /did/ you expect?
