Btjunkie closes down

End of the line for veteran filesharer
Mon Feb 06 2012, 09:36

FILESHARING WEB SITE Btjunkie has closed its doors after seven years of activity.

A short note on the web site explains the closure, saying that it is voluntary, which at least makes a change for this sort of online destination.

Although in recent weeks we have seen similar web sites shut down or banned by law enforcement, this was its own decision and not as sensational as those takedowns.

However, we cannot help but think that it might have been influenced by external forces and proposed legislation like SOPA and PIPA.

"This is the end of the line my friends," says the goodbye note on the Btjunkie homepage.

"The decision does not come easy, but we've decided to voluntarily shut down. We've been fighting for years for your right to communicate, but it's time to move on. It's been an experience of a lifetime, we wish you all the best!" µ
