Micron appoints a new CEO

SEMICONDUCTOR FIRM Micron has quickly moved to appoint a successor to Steve Appleton, its CEO who suddenly passed away last week.

While tributes poured in for Appleton, who died in a plane crash, the firm was deciding who should replace him and hours later announced the appointment of Mark Durcan as CEO. Durcan will also serve as a director on the firm's board of directors.

"We are fortunate to be able to appoint someone with Mark's operations and technical leadership experience to serve as the company's CEO," said Micron director Robert Switz.

"Mark has been instrumental in Micron's success in his role as President and COO and has garnered the respect of the company, his team members and the industry at large."

Switz was appointed chairman of the board and Mark Adams becomes president. Durcan was CTO at the company before his new appointment and has been at Micron since 1984.

"We are deeply saddened by Steve's loss and will miss his hand at the helm," he said. "I have provided the Board my ongoing commitment to work with the management team and continue to move the company forward." µ
