HACKTIVIST GROUP Anonymous has taken down the web sites of more Brazilian financial firms.
Yesterday we reported that the Brazilian branch of the populist group had attacked four major banks. The attacks have continued today, striking out at three more banks - Citibank, Panamericano, and Febraban.
Earlier the group said:
#OpWeeksPayment ATENÇÃO MARUJOS: Aumentem o volume de vossas vitrolas porque hoje teremos muitoTANGO! TRILHA... fb.me/K223yKJG
— Anonymous Brasil (@AnonBRNews) February 3, 2012
Translated, it says, "# WARNING OpWeeksPayment Sailors: Increase the volume of your turntables because today we have much TANGO! TRACK ..."
The group is protesting over economic inequality in the country and claims that the aim is not to defraud customers. It has also taken down Cielo, a credit and debit card operator.
It announced the attacks on Twitter, with tweets similar to, "# OpWeeksPayment - Sailors WARNING: Target reached! Citibank is drifting! TANGO DOWN!"
"# WARNING OpWeeksPayment Sailors: The febraban.org.br joined the friends there in the sea! This will be grounded for a long time!" another read.
It's unclear whether attacking eight financial targets will be enough for the busy group or whether more are in the firing line. µ

No hacking is not freedom of speech and two wrongs don't make a right. There is a reason why hackers are arrested, prosecuted and sent to prison. They are STUPID and in denial.
@Don, hacking is freedom of expression. The corporate overlords commit crime all the time, but no one in the corrupt legal system will prosecute. So for your high and might "crime" comments, in the US our 1st amendment is being stripped, and that is a crying shame. So does one follow the law that changes based on who is being criticized or participate in civil disobedience? I have NO sympathy for a corp which robs poor people and adds to the social injustice.
Hacking is a crime just like breaking and entering is a crime. It cost time and money to repair any damages done by hacking. It cost time and money to track down hackers, build a case against them, prosecute them and incarcerate them. This is why it would be much more efficient to put a bullet in their head.
I still don't understand the long-term effects of hacking someone's website. It isn't like they're doing any damage.
Sort of like t-p'ing your old school, or soaping windows on halloween.
I like Anonymous. Interesting group.
They cross the wrong people, BEFORE the pantwasters wind up in a shallow grave they are 'questioned' (blow torch and pliars, files to the teeth, and other much more painful things...) to give away other 'anonymous' members. Wash, Rinse, Repeat... It wont matter what country the pantywasters are in, they can be got to. Authorities may be 'slow' to offer any protection to these arrogant miscreants.
I hope we get transcripts of Anon members telling the judge that they are "entitled" to hack in order to save the planet...
Yes Buffy and they really won't like that...
Just watch, these pantywaste criminals will mess with people it would be wiser they hadnt and you will be hearing about many ' bodies turning up with .22 bullets in the back of the head '.
Anon members are going to get a close up and personal view of prison life in Brazil.
