Pirate Party adds weight to ACTA protests

Will support nationwide protests
Fri Feb 03 2012, 13:29

POLITICAL UPSTART the UK Pirate Party is supporting nationwide protests against the Anti-Copyright Trade Agreement (ACTA).

The day of protests is set for 11 February and the party said that its executive commitee had voted in favour of supporting the protests that will take place in the UK and across Europe.

"We saw what the combination of protest and political pressure achieved with the dropping of SOPA," said UK Pirate Party leader Loz Kaye.

"But the threats to digital rights and civil liberties aren't over. It's vital that we send a clear message that the people of Europe don't want ACTA."

Protests will be held in Glasgow, London and Nottingham, and are set to start at around lunchtime. The Pirate Party is hoping that a lot of people will turn up, and the fact that 11 February is a Saturday might help this.

"I hope to see many of my fellow citizens out next Saturday to demand that free speech and privacy online be eroded no further, and to let the political establishment know that they cannot simply bypass democracy like this without people noticing," added Pirate Party Scotland spokesperson Finlay Archibald.

Anonymous is also opposing the trade agreement and supporting anti-ACTA protests. "The Trans-Pacific Partnership - If SOPA was an aircraft carrier, #ACTA and #TPP are nuclear submarines," says a tweet from the @Youranonnews account, while a long list of web sites belonging to governments and countries that support ACTA have already been hacked or defaced. µ

It's not cowardice...

It's now cowardice of the populace. The majority of society has no issues with copyright laws. It's the 2% of society that believe they are entitled or above law, that can't deal with reality. they build prisons for these people. Ask Anon members.

The power of Evil Men lies in the cowardice of the Good

The Power of Evil Men comes from the Cowardice of the Good.
It is enough for Good men to do NOTHINg for The Power of Evil men to rise.
While you still have the choice to oppose these Evil Men, rise up Good People! Rise Up!

Begging is a waste of time

The 1% will throw crumbs to the 99%. These protest are wasted energy. Nothing changed and nothing is going to change.

Correction: What ACTA means

ACTA is officially the "Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement."

Of course, if truth were told (by politicians? Sure, that will happen), it would be called the "Anti-Citizen Tyranny Act."

I Beg To Differ

@Paul J

It seems to me that OWS protests were very effective. I would not have seen main-scream media coverage if such were not the case. Moreover, the overlords would not have deemed it necessary to attack protestors due to their ineffectiveness.

The Awakening is here; prepare yourself.
