Plusnet users are suffering slow speeds

Problems take users back to dial-up
Thu Feb 02 2012, 10:21

UK INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER (ISP) Plusnet is investigating a problem with its traffic management that has lead to users having some very slow broadband speeds indeed.

It is not known what the problem is, but a short note has appeared on Plusnet's service information page. This was posted at around 8am and has not yet been superceded.

"We are currently investigating a problem that has arisen during maintenance of our traffic management platform. Customers will likely experience slower speeds than normal due to being assigned a default profile," says the message from Plusnet customer support.

"Our network engineers are investigating this issue and we will provide a further update once we have more information. Sorry for the inconvenience caused by the temporary low speeds."

There are some very slow speeds indeed according to Twitter, where estimates from some users put connection speeds at 16Kbit/s.

"Hi all, really sorry about the slow speeds this morning. As per [the status message] our engineers are investigating, we'll update ASAP," is the latest message to come out of the firm's own Twitter account, posted around an hour and a half after its earlier explanation. µ

Even their own portal can't be accessed

:-( - Is this the BT effect kicking in?

Thanks for reporting this, as if you can't access your own ISP's problem page, how can you tell what's going on?
