THE UK'S HIGHEST COURT is considering whether ten years is a long time to wait for a decision on extraditing someone.
That someone is Gary McKinnon, an Aspergers sufferer who is suspected of hacking into NASA and other computers in early 2002. The US government claims that he did millions of dollars worth of damages in his hunt for evidence of alien intelligence and it reportedly favours a prison term of around 60 years.
The UK government can stop this of course, it just hasn't managed to in just under a decade. Today, UK High Court judges tried to hurry things up, according to the Telegraph, and did this by setting another hearing date in July. We would hate to see it when it decides to move slowly.
Edward Fitzgerald QC, who represents McKinnon, said that there is hope that Home Secretary Theresa May might block his extradition, and reminded the court of the heavy mental strain that the case was putting on his client.
"We hope it will never come back to court," he said. µ

When is this damn country going to tell the yanks to stick their extradition treaty up their arse. There's not a chance in hell they'd ever extradite someone back here for a similar offence.
The offence was committed in the UK, hence there is no grounds for extradition.
Justice delayed is justice denied. McKinnon should have been shipped off to the U.S. ten years ago. Any other person admitting to their crimes would have been. The farse of his sudden illness is of no concern regarding extradition under the treaty. It's time to face the music Mr. McKinnon.
