TAIWANESE HARDWARE OUTFIT Asus has updated UK users about a WiFi problem affecting its Eee Pad Transformer Prime tablet.
The bad news is, there is a problem, the good news is that it should not affect UK users.
"As part of our unwavering commitment to our customers, we wish to allay some recent concerns regarding the Eee Pad Transformer Prime TF201," says a message from the firm.
"After extensive checks we can confirm that no units have been supplied to the UK with a known WiFi issue."
However, it adds that any customers with WiFi issues can phone 0870 1208 340 and that any customers that have bought a Transformer Prime TF201 and "are dissatisfied with the performance of the GPS module" can return the unit for a full refund, as long as it qualifies under UK consumer rights rules.
Alternatively, if you want to keep your unit the company is offering you an extension on its warranty, from 12 months to 18 months. If you choose to do that then you should phone the above number.
Asus has contacted us to say that our article is incorrect and that it has not confirmed a problem. Rather, it seems, it is just doing a nice thing in case anyone does run into WiFi or GPS difficulties.
"We HAVE NOT confirmed a WiFi issue with the Transformer Prime TF201. We have said that units supplied to the UK do not have a known WiFi issue. [That is,] we are not aware that the units supplied to the UK are affected by any WiFi issues," said the message
This means that if there are problems the firm is not directly aware of them. However, if they arise people can take units back for a refund or apply for an extended warranty, the latter of which sounds rather benevolent given the circumstances.
The spokesperson told us that Asus was aware that some users had had problems with their unit, but was also aware that others had not. He added that if anyone did have a problem then they should contact Asus about it.
