Virgin Media promises some users 120Mbit/s speed upgrades

Then swiftly backtracks

INTERNET, TELEVISION AND TELEPHONE provider Virgin Media made a little gaffe over the weekend when it sent some users emails that promised them a significant speed upgrade.

The firm sent an email to some of its customers in which it told them to expect a whopping speed upgrade to 120Mbit/s. Unfortunately it sent the email to the wrong users and had to quickly let them know of its mistake.

"Hi everyone. We understand that some of you have received an email tonight mentioning that you currently receive 100Mb broadband, when you don't. We're sorry but we sent this email in error to some of our customers and we apologise for the gremlins in our email system," wrote Mark Wilkin, a help and support forum manager at Virgin Media in a forum post.

"The great news is we are boosting all our customers' broadband speeds in the coming months and we'll be in touch soon with more details about what exactly this means for you. Sorry again for the confusion."

The confusion follows Virgin Media's announcement that it will be doubling its customers' broadband speeds, up to a new highest rate of 120Mbit/s. µ
