Google opens up to personal searches

Helps you find yourself
Tue Jan 10 2012, 15:57

IN THIS AGE of 'me me me' it is only fitting that Google is letting people tailor their searches so they provide accurate, personal results.

That is what the company has announced anyway. 'Search plus Your World' is a way of making sure that the information it is giving you is the information you are looking for.

"Search is pretty amazing at finding that one needle in a haystack of billions of webpages, images, videos, news and much more. But clearly, that isn't enough," said Google. "We're transforming Google into a search engine that understands not only content, but also people and relationships."

This involves calling up what Google calls Personal Results, which are tailored just for you based on previously searched information, and should make you feel special when you're searching the internet.

Personal Results is just one of three new features of Google's search engine, and the others also offer a more personal experience. Profiles in Search, which is the second and could just be called People Search, lets users find people that they might be close to or interested in following, and People and Pages lets you drill down into other information, such as interests or topics covered, to see who else you might want to follow.

Profiles in Search will make it easier to find the people you already know, and will throw up autocomplete suggestions for notable Google+ users, the company adds.

People and Pages will make suggestions on who to follow on the left side of search pages, and will be based on any searches carried out.

Search plus Your World will become available over the next few days. µ
