UK MOBILE OPERATOR Orange has become the first network to launch an own brand tablet in the UK.
The 7in Tahiti tablet is made by Chinese firm Huawei, and appears to be a rebranded version of its Huawei Mediapad device.
Like the Huawei Mediapad, the Tahiti runs Android 3.2 Honeycomb and has a multi-touch LCD screen and a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor.
The Tahiti is available with a slate black and silver finish and has a 5MP camera, A-GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G+ connectivity.
It is available for £69.99 on a £25 a month, 24 month data plan which includes 1GB of anytime data, 1GB of 'quiet time' data and unlimited WiFi hotspot access each month.
It's also available free as part of a Connected 24 month plan with the San Francisco II handset for £41 per month. The new Connected plan comes with a 2GB anytime data allowance and unlimited WiFi hotspot access which can be shared across both devices, as well as 200 anytime call minutes and unlimited texts. µ
Anyone taking Orange up on this must be considered mad, after all, who in their right mind would pay £600 for a low spec 7 inch tablet?
