EMI is suing Grooveshark

Digital music service is accused of not paying royalties
Fri Jan 06 2012, 15:56

WELL HEELED music publisher EMI has sued digital music outfit Grooveshark, complaining that it hasn't paid royalties.

A report at the New York Times says that EMI Music Publishing has joined a group of other recording companies suing the music firm and filed its lawsuit Wednesday.

The firm is suing Grooveshark's parent company Escape Media Group for breach of contract, and alleges that it has "made not a single royalty payment to EMI, nor provided a single accounting statement". EMI is asking for at least $150,000 in royalties from the firm.

We have asked both firms to comment on the report. Grooveshark said, "This is a contract dispute with the Publisher EMI that we expect to resolve." EMI put us through to someone's voicemail.

Other music cartel firms suing the company include Universal Music Group, Sony Music and Warner Music Group. µ
