KOREAN HARDWARE GIANT Samsung has announced its Series 7 Smart Station, HDTV monitor and Series 9 monitor.

It unveild the trio of displays in advance of the consumer electronics show (CES) in Las Vegas next week. All three will come in a 27in screen size with various technology to bring to market.

Neil Sawyer, head of IT marketing at Samsung said, "The PC market has been slowly evolving as users move away from desktops in favour of laptops, tablets and even smartphones. By doing this, users are limited to comparatively smaller displays, touchpads, limited keyboards and multiple peripheral connections. The new Series 7 Smart Station and Series 7 HDTV monitor combine the convenience of a laptop or mobile device with the traditional advantages of a desktop PC."

The full HD LED Series 7 Smart Station will come with mobile high definition link (MHL) technology enabling users to connect and control devices such as smartphones and tablets wirelessly. Samsung said the device can detect a laptop with wireless USB once it's been moved five feet away and multiple devices can be connected at once.

MHL will be on the Series 7 HDTV monitor, which will be available in 24in and 27in screen sizes. It will also have Intel's wireless display (WiDi) technology, a built-in TV tuner and a picture-in-picture function for better multi-tasking.

Both Series 7 products will feature USB 3.0 and HDMI connectivity along with built-in stereo speakers.

Consumers looking for a premium grade display might be tempted by the Series 9 monitor, which will come with quad-HD 2560x1440 resolution. Samsung said it will use "exclusive professional-grade Plane Line Switching (PLS) panel technology".

This will offer "accurate colour reproduction with over one billion colours that can be viewed at wide horizontal and vertical angles", according to the firm.

Like the other monitors it will have MHL technology and connectivity will include HDMI, DVI, USB hub and Displayport. Samsung has yet to announce pricing or availability for these models. µ
