Raspberry Pi boards hit Ebay
A LIMITED NUMBER of Raspberry Pi beta boards have appeared on Ebay and are gathering some big money attention.
The boards are the basis for the £15 Raspberry Pi computer on a USB stick, and 10 have been made available at the online auction web site Ebay by their developers.
Board number 10 of 10 has the most bidders and lately has seen a bid of £2,050, according to the Ebay listing.
Eben Upton, executive director at the Raspberry Pi Foundation announced the auction on Youtube, and he explained that the 10 boards have had some slight changes from those seen before.
Auction winners will get the board and a USB power supply. Upton said that they would most likely be running the Debian Linux operating system.
The auctions are going well, and have put a high value on what will become such a cheap PC. "We really weren't expecting to see this level of interest, and we're quite humbled by it," says the Raspberry Pi Foundation on its web site.
Upton suggested that potential bidders will include collectors, early adopters, hardware firms that might see it as a commercial project, and anyone that wants to invest in the low cost computing concept. µ

I am looking forward to playing around with one of these. The possibilities are numerous for small scale commercial applications as well as educational applications. For example we have dozens of machines that literally just display some website information all day every day, these could save their cost in electricity very quickly if we replaced them. As there is nothing that compares to this price commercially available to small companies I hope it will open up the low powered Embedded market somewhat.
