CAPPUCCINO COMPANY Apple's head of design, Jonathan Ive has been awarded a knighthood in the British monarchy's New Year Honours list.

The Apple styling guru who is credited with the design of the Iphone and Ipad is now a Knight Commander of the British Empire (KBE) and can now refer to himself as 'Sir Jonathan', or 'Sir Jony' if he prefers.

It is the second time that Ive has been credited in Queen Elizabeth's annual Honours list, as he was made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in 2005. His KBE was announced on the diplomatic and overseas list.

Jonathan Ive started work for Apple in 1992. According to the BBC, he described the honour as "absolutely thrilling" and said he was "both humbled and sincerely grateful".

He said, "I am keenly aware that I benefit from a wonderful tradition in the UK of designing and making. I discovered at an early age that all I've ever wanted to do is design."

The late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs described Ive as his "spiritual partner" in his recent biography. µ
