Google starts rolling out a new look

Even more minimalist
Tue Jan 03 2012, 10:40

INTERNET SEARCH GIANT Google has started rolling out a new look interface for some users.

The redesign shifts the web page layout and how users can access the different parts of Google. The firm has replaced the previous horizontal black bar at the top with a grey logo, from which a drop down menu can be accessed.

Google New Look Interface 2012

Google announced the revamp a while ago and said, "We're now ready for the next stage of our redesign - a new Google bar that will enable you to navigate quickly between our services, as well as share the right stuff with the right people easily on Google+."

The list displays links to Google's other services such as Maps, Gmail, Google+ and News, each with its own icon. However, the first eight items listed also contains a link to Youtube, a non-Google branded service. A 'more' button then reveals additional content as usual.

It's more minimalist than before but actually there are more clicks required to get places. Google said the changes will make navigation and sharing "super simple".

Google said, "We have rolled out the new Google bar to some users and are looking to broaden the rollout in the coming weeks." So not everyone will see the new look yet, and only one member of The INQUIRER staff has it so far. µ

Where did it go?

I had the new version but now it's gone. Why did they take it away from me?

Unlike most idiots, change doesn't bother me.

IT'S AWFUL

Seriously!? It's terrible. The fonts are too thin and too small to read; most of your customers are over the age of 14 and need/want fonts they can easily see and easily read. Don't fix it if it ain't broken. Seriously!

i like it

I think its a little bit more minimalist than the earlier design, but those who think you have to click on the Google logo to get to the dropdown menu, you can actually hover over it and it will appear.

Google New Look?

Google new look? (Gmail, Front page, Youtube, Docs, etc). Ans: Hindu feet and feces. Larry, Sergey, Eric: Mount your horses!

new look? yuck.

so google's finally decided to join the other "ain't broke? so what. fix it anyway" idiots. those cute little pictures are especially insulting. apparently they forgot that the users of email can actually read. what they had was simple, a pleasure to use. what they've got now....isn't.

Stupid

If they want to change the look that's fine, what angers me is the lack of choice. This method is worse than the old one. It was easier to navigate the previous way. Why don't they just leave the horizontal bar and allow you to choose what you want listed there. I hate it.

RE: You Have It Wrong

Actually, the article is correct. I've had it on Firefox for a couple of weeks now regardless of if I'm signed in or not. My guess is they are rolling it out by region rather than specific users.

I love the new interface by the way, but I'm also one who doesn't mind "change". For others it might take some time to appreciate the layout.

You Have It Wrong!

Only Google Chrome users and Google Developers have access to the new UI.

I should know, I am one of both.
