INQUIRER readers trust no one

Latest poll reveals X Files fans
Fri Dec 09 2011, 17:28

READERS of The INQUIRER trust no one it seems, according to our latest poll on the software flogged by Carrier IQ that collects smartphone data.

Carrier IQ hit the headlines recently. We asked, "Who do you trust with your smartphone usage data?"

Overwhelmingly, 82 per cent of readers went with our X Files inspired option, "Watching the X Files taught me, trust no one".

Hardly surprising, however we were a liitle surprised that only five per cent trust Google, selecting, "Google, it's the only of these that isn't evil". Perhaps Google fans are on the decline.

Just as surprisingly, the Apple fanbois weren't out in force either, with just three per cent choosing, "Apple, I am safe in its walled garden".

Meanwhile, seven per cent of you said, "Carrier IQ, I like my personal data to be collected and used". We hope this lot were being sarcastic because we certainly were when we wrote this option.

Another one per cent said they trust mobile operators, who we all know thrive on using customer data. That one per cent chose, "Operators would never use my data for their own purposes".

Slightly more than that, two per cent, went for the option, "Only the Government should know everything about me". We hope they all knew what they were saying. µ

in short:

i think this translates as:

they dont trust the media, it is merely a point of reference from which you may decide to do your own research

blame murdoch for the steep decline of media and the lack of public confidence in it

real people form their own opinions and confidence comes with that
