MAKER OF EXPENSIVE PRINTER INK HP will announce its decision about what it will do with WebOS later today, according to reports.

According to Precentral.net, HP CEO Meg Whitman will announce the fate of the operating system (OS) that HP bought from Palm at 10:30am Pacific Time, which will be 6.30pm in the UK.

At the start of this month we reported that HP would make a decision on the future of its WebOS operating system within the following two weeks.

Whitman said an interview with French publication Le Figaro,"We should announce our decision in the next two weeks. This is not an easy decision, because we have a team of 600 people which is in limbo. We need to have another operating system."

She added that tablets is an area that HP will try to get back into again, specifically it seems, running Microsoft's Windows OS.

Last month, Whitman revealed that the company does not know what to do with WebOS, the operating system it acquired when it bought Palm in 2010.

We phoned HP, but the PR didn't know of any announcement about WebOS and has not returned our call, hours later. We think HP will likely dump the all but abandoned ex-Palm operating system, despite its success on discount priced Touchpads during HP's $100 fire sales. µ

Make Dual/Triple Boot tablets

HP can make Android as the primary OS and can offer WebOS/Windows 8 as secondary. There is lot of market for Android/ Windows tablets at both the higher and lower end but none for WebOS.
